Back fer Realz!

Blogger wasn't cooperating with Internet Explorer and I work off a company laptop even at home. The firewalls wouldn't let me use Firefox so I couldn't get on to blog. The issues with IE and blogger seem to be cleared up, so now I can blog here again.

In the meanwhile, I've been running a private blog accessible only to family and friends at another site.

Let's see what's happened to me since the last time I was here.

I bought a house, I still travel for work, I have 2 minidoxies that are now 8 months old. I slipped and hurt my back and knee in July and had to go to the chiropractor and into physical therapy to get the feeling back in my leg and to strengthen my back and knee. I joined a gym as a Christmas present to myself and I started working out with a personal trainer one day a week to show me how to properly do the exercises that I do the rest of the week. I haven't lost as much weight as I wanted to but I have lost a lot of inches and I feel great--more energetic and stronger.

While searching the web for ideas for lunches to take to work besides sandwiches, I've become a bit obsessed with Bento Boxes. I've been loading my rubbermaid containers in bento style. I may break down and buy a couple of bento boxes anyway--some of them are very attractive.

I've purchased a sewing machine. The first one I've owned since college. I'll be making things like slipcovers for the furniture and curtains for the house.

I'm out of town right now. When I get back home, I want to work on the backyard. I'd like to start a garden and I want to put in a patio.

WooHoo! Been away a while and now I'm back!

Busy, busy season this year. I finally had a week off and went to St Louis with some friends. Saw the Police while I was there and had a fantastic time!

Now for the big news...I signed a contract on a new house today. It will be ready in September and we close at the end of September. Whew!

Still In Decatur...And It's Snowing!

Woke up this morning and it was snowing. I haven't seen snow in about 7 years. The little kid in me was all excited and wanted to dance around and catch snowflakes on my tongue, but the adult in me was relieved that it had rained earlier and the snow was melting as soon as it touched ground.

Called home to check on Cosmo. He's been feeling a bit out of sorts. My aunt had to take him to the vet, he was a bit sluggish and bloated. Turned out he was a bit constipated, she fed him some oatmeal and he was alright. He still has an unusual lump on his left side, so the vet has set up an appointment for him to go in for an ultrasound.

Whew! Work, work, work!

Well, I finally got out of McAllen a few days before Christmas. Had just enough time to shop for gifts, but I never did get to unpack. Just after New Year's I had to go to Orlando for Spring Training and then in the middle of the training session, got a call to head back to Decatur for an emergency job.

When I get back home I'll update my weight entries. At last weigh in I was down 6.4 pounds.

I think this is going to be a good year.

Work has been keeping me pretty busy and I've not felt like blogging when I get off work and I've not been doing well on the program. I'm very disappointed with myself, I expected to be further along my path by now, but I haven't been doing what I'm supposed to and the results speak for themselves. So I need to refocus and get back on track.

Well...over the summer a group of friends and I have been participating in a book club. Each person is assigned 2 book buddies and one of your book buddies sends you a book to read and you send a book to your other book buddy. When you finish the book that was sent to you, then you forward it on to the next person on your list. When your book comes back, then it's time to send out another book. So far, books I've read in the book club are, in no particular order: Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Mapping Human History: Discovering the Past Through Our Genes by Steve Olson
Blood Lust: Conversations with Real Vampires (book out of print), and Fugitives and Refugees: A Walk in Portland, Oregon by Chuck Palahniuk.

My send to book buddy is a fast reader, so I've sent several books to keep her busy while I wait on the next entries to get to me. My contributions to the book club have been: The Bride Stripped Bare: A Novel by Nikki Gemmell, The Corset Diaries by Katie MacAllister, and The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffeneger.

Other books I've read this summer and traveling for work: Affinity by Sarah Waters, Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder, Window Dressing by Nikki Rivers, The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown, Jemima J: A Novel About Ugly Ducklings and Swans by Jane Green, and Awakening by Kate Austin.

I am currently reading: The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, Sand in my Bra and Other Misadventures: Funny Women Write from the Road edited by Jennifer L. Leo, and Remembering the Future: The Path to Recovering Intuition by Collette Baron-Reid
